Medical Grade Micro-needling

Medical Grade Micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, Dermaroller or Skin-needling) is a safe and increasingly popular skin renewal technique to restore the healthy, youthful appearance of your skin by stimulating the production of collagen.

It is an efficient and safe approach to skin rejuvenation with minimal or zero downtime.

Skin needling produces similar results to ‘ablative techniques’ such as Fraxel, lasers and deep chemical peels. However, it is much less invasive and does not require the removal of the epidermis.

Healing time is shorter and there is no post-treatment sensitivity to UV light as with lasers.

Skin needling is also one of the few skin therapies that is suitable for treating all skin types, including ethnic skin and fragile skin around the eyes, mouth and neck.

Collagen is a protein which gives skin its structure and makes it smooth and young-looking. Micro-needling creates micro-injuries which triggers the skin’s healing response in the same way that it would normally respond to cuts, burns and other abrasions.

Skin healing encourages collagen production and this helps to regenerate and thicken the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, scars and other imperfections, giving the skin a smooth, clear, firm and younger-looking appearance.

A numbing cream is applied and allowed to seep into the skin for 30 minutes. This works to almost eliminate any pain and provide a tolerable treatment.

The skin can be pink/red immediately afterwards and it may feel dry, but everything is usually healed within 3 days.

The micro-needling treatment is a 60-minute appointment.

It’s important to note that you can’t put on foundation to cover up any redness caused by treatment. You need to let your skin naturally respond and heal, which means no makeup for you! You’ll have to wait 2 to 3 days to begin wearing makeup again.

Since micro-needling creates micro wounds in the skin, you cannot return to your normal skincare routine right away. In fact, immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have mild to moderate sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. These effects are normal and they typically subside within a few hours after treatment, but can take up to 24-48 hours for complete resolution.

Your skin professional will discuss post-procedure skincare following the treatment to help soothe, calm, and protect the skin.
