Orthodontics doesn’t have to mean changing your appearance…

The general consensuses behind braces and orthodontic treatment is that your appearance will change, your face will look different to others. However, with the cosmetic advancements in brace technology today, it is possible to keep your treatment almost totally under wraps in the eyes of others.

‘Invisible’ braces now give patients the option of having discreet orthodontic treatment. These types include Invisalign and ceramic braces.

Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces are the same shape and and size as metal braces but have clear or tooth-coloured brackets and wires to render them discreet to the eyes of others.

Before proceeding with ceramic braces, your orthodontist here at Shields will carefully evaluate the way your teeth overlap when closed. The ligatures are tightened every 6 weeks and are either white or clear in colour. This also contributes to their inconspicuous aesthetics.

Overall benefits of ceramic braces

  • Less painful as they do not irritate the gums.
  • Versatility – ceramic braces have semi-translucent-ceramic brackets which are better for white teeth as well as tooth-coloured ceramic, more suited to darker teeth.
  • Solid, sturdy design – high quality and less likely to chip and break than other brace models.

Invisalign is a set of clear aligners, also designed to go unnoticed by others. Invisalign are a removable treatment option and are popular for their cosmetic appeal and because of the ease with which they can be removed.

If you work in a highly professional environment, ‘invisible’ brace types are a great option. They enable you to hold client meetings and presentations with confidence. These brace types may affect your speech but only for a very small amount of time.
